A study of the top ten mutual funds' equity portfolios, accounting for 72% of the total assets managed by the fund industry, reveals that they bought metals, auto, engineering, banking and financial services stocks in August, but continued to sell oil & gas stocks. They also pared exposure to telecom, cement & construction, utility, and manufacturing stocks.

Amongst the IPOs, nine of the 13 equity IPOs that listed in August found place in the mutual fund portfolios, with Puravankara Projects, Central Bank of India, Take Solutions, and Omaxe being the favourites.
