My thanks to all those who sent their congratulations on the marriage of my
youngest son last Saturday. The wedding was lovely, and we had a nice
reception at the home of one of the bride's siblings in Washington. We are
in the process of preparing for an open house here in Utah this next
Friday--boy, is there lots to do!
All is good, however, as we are enjoying the focus on the kids' new
marriage. (And eventually things will get back to normal, if we can just
remember what normal is. <g>)
Thanks, again.
-Allen

Getting Rid of Alphabetic Characters
------------------------------
If you have some data that has a combination of alphabetic and other
characters, and you want to get rid of only the alphabetic characters, you
could be facing a huge editing job. Of course, you could rely upon a macro
to do the editing for you, as described in this tip.

------------------------------
Searching for Line Breaks
------------------------------
If you have line breaks in some of the cells of your worksheet, you might
want to search for them. There is no "special character" you can use for the
search, like there is in Word. You can easily find the line breaks by using
an ASCII code in the search parameters.

Positioning Graphics Evenly
------------------------------
If you need to adjust the position of your graphics so that they are evenly
spaced, you can do so by using a quick little Excel command.
This tip explains how you can distribute the position of graphics between
two end graphics.

Using the XIRR Function
------------------------------
The XIRR function is used to determine the rate of return with irregular
payments. This tip explains how to use the function.

Defining Shortcut Keys for Symbols
------------------------------
We use Excel to keep a maintenance log. We frequently need to add a symbol
from the Insert Symbol dialog box. I'd like to assign the symbol to a
shortcut key (it doesn't have one already), but cannot find a way to do it.
I've tried using macros, but they seem to insert the symbol into the entire
cell, replacing whatever is there. I just need a shortcut for a specific
symbol that I can use while typing text into the cell. Any ideas? (John
Myers)
------------------------------
Pasting a Graphic to Multiple Worksheets
------------------------------
I have Excel workbooks that contain up to 50 worksheets. I want to paste a
graphic (a company logo) into the same spot on each worksheet.
I tried to do this by selecting all the worksheets and then doing the
pasting, but that doesn't seem to work on multiple worksheets like regular
editing does. Is there a way to perform such an operation?
(Marty Wilson)
